Day 21 - Hobbit Beach

It's always a head scratcher here. There are just way too many delectable goodies to choose from. Hail to our newest bakery find in Waldport Oregon. The Pacific Sourdough name we do find misleading - as indeed they do make a huge range of sourdough breads - but so many other pastries not of the sourdough genre. Beware - they only open on Thurs Fri and Sat from 10 - 3!!

The giant Rhododendron forest at the top of Hobbit Trail is in full glory. We were hoping to see the forest bloom, but it is still too early in the season.

The Team heads into the unknown.

This is a very cool public art project that lines the trail at the the beach end of Hobbit. Always open to additions! That is unless the local sea birds and ravens are responsible!

The reclusive landclam pops out of its lair for a little sunshine.

Crabs 'n Razors in the garden.

I made a sheltic loop. I'm so proud of myself.

The fog looms over Heceta Head, but all is sunny and windy on the beach.

Hobbit Beach is home to many unique creatures, one of which is the Compass Crab. These crabs construct these tiny cruciforms indicating the magnetic cardinals, which are in turn, used by migrating whales and birds for navigation.

Further down the beach, the clams have erected their first office tower, which is now home to their largest tech community. They now await Starbucks.

Dogs angrily bark the waves.

Fog creeps in along the sea cliffs.

Hobbit Beach boxes out at this amazing hanging garden.

Hobbit Falls.

At the south end of Hobbit Beach, the clams are practically illiterate, but they are able to make their wishes known in monosyllabic scrawls.

Hello. Do you have permission to pass on the Hobbit trail? We only allow parties with a spirit of great imagination, desire for much fun - or accompanied by small black shetland sheepdogs. Oh OK - you have one of those!
